RHK now has TWO program coordinators - one for the kids and one for the teens.

I’ve been volunteering at RHK for about 10 months now, and I truly love what I do. I typically come in during the day and work with April, RHK’s Storeroom Coordinator. What I enjoy most is that every day is different. I never quite know what I’ll be doing, and that keeps it exciting.

Our staff have a great time visiting local churches and groups, sharing about the mission of RHK. Sometimes it is speaking during a church service, or helping kids in children’s church pack Kid-friendly food bags for our kids.

In September, I received a call from a former RHK kid. They were struggling—homeless, sleeping on the streets, and recently hospitalized due to an infection that required surgery. As they shared their story, they weren’t asking for a handout. They weren’t looking for help—just someone to listen. But it wasn’t a one-way conversation. They wanted to know how RHK was doing. They wanted to know how I was doing. How Mr. Mike was doing. How my dogs were.

Guess what? We saw more than 550 students and parents attend the event! School-age kids and teens who needed them received school physicals, eye exams, backpacks with school supplies, and much more. All thanks to the 25+ different organizations and churches that came together to make sure families in the communities had what they needed to help their kids start the new school year.

It was a long day in Chicago, but our teens enjoyed a great day exploring the Museum of Science and Industry.

Many of our kids feel they have no hope and are stuck in a situation they will never be able to get out of. We continue to show them there is a way out and His name is Jesus.

Meet the McNeil family. Jaci, Jim and Jeb teach a music class for our kids on Wednesday evenings and six-year-old Viv joins the rest of the kids in our evening program. Recently, Jim and Jeb have also volunteered to drive one of our vans to pick-up and drop off kids.

Summer at RHK Means: Field Trips!

The kids are heading back to school already. Thank you for helping us give them a fresh start for the new year.

“Mr. Rich” served in our evening program for more than 10 years. In 2014, he and his wife, Janel heard about the need for volunteers at RHK to come and share Christ’s love with our kids and they decided to do just that together.

RHK is blessed to receive two grants recently. The first is a $2,500 grant from the Rockford Cosmopolitan Club to help cover costs to upgrade our security cameras, helping to better ensure the safety of our kids when they are here. The second is a generous grant from the Rockford Park District. We received vouchers worth $2,350 which make it possible for us to take our kids on field trips this summer to locations like Alpine pool, the Discovery Center, Lockwood Park, and M

One of my favorite memories was when the kids came to my church for a Christmas Party. At the end of the night, we had a dance party. I had the best time dancing with one of the kids. It was so much fun and sealed the deal for me to volunteer at RHK. Another favorite memory was seeing some of the kids get baptized. Watching their faces light up with excitement was priceless.
