Meet Mike. He grew up in Lyons IL and attended NIU (Northern Illinois University), achieving a Marketing degree in their school of business. Mike became a Christian while attending Morton Jr. College in Cicero, IL and worked for the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association for over 37 years. He enjoys playing guitar, mountain biking, riding his Harley motorcycle with his son, and detailing cars.
Mike has volunteered at RHK for 12 years. He started volunteering temporarily until they found a volunteer for the boys. He now serves as a van driver and group leader on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
His favorite memory is when he and another volunteer took two boys they were mentoring at RHK to a Father/son camp for four days in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The father of one of the boys was shot and killed the prior summer, and this time away with his mentors meant a lot to him. This was the same camp he took his kids to when they were young.
Mike says, “Serving the kids at RHK becomes part of your DNA. When you are not there, you miss the kids you work with. They count on you and are excited to see you.”
He continued: “Thinking of volunteering? If God is calling you, come to RHK. You do not need any special skills; they are actually a hinderance. God will provide you with what you will need.”
