RHK Volunteer Spotlight: Hope Sandine

Hi, my name is Hope Sandine. I grew up in Davis Junction and was homeschooled. I have a twin sister who also volunteers with me on Mondays.

I just started working for Cintas as an accounts receivable clerk.

I started volunteering when I was 14 years old and have been with Rock House Kids for 16 years. I was drawn to Rock House because I saw how much they helped the community and inner-city youth. I found out about the organization through RHK’s founder, Dola Gregory. She encouraged us to start volunteering and said she would let us be the first underage kids to volunteer. I instantly felt like I was where I was meant to be.

I started in the Pebbles and I’m still in that age group! I love being with the 1st and 2nd graders. They are the funniest group, in my opinion! I would say I keep coming back because of the relationships I have with the kids. I know that when I come through the doors, the kids will run up and hug me and say “Hi, Miss Hope”! To me, that is the best feeling in the world.

If you are considering volunteering: my piece of advice would be to remember that consistency is important. I don’t always want to go each night and it can be exhausting sometimes but it’s so rewarding.
