Walking by Faith

Perspective from our Program Coordinator, Triasia Housen:
When I walked through the doors for my first program night, I was not only nervous, but I also had so many thoughts going through my head. All the “what ifs” went through my mind, as well as, “Will they accept someone new? Someone like me?” I could hear God say, “Be still and know,” and boy, did He know. Rock House Kids has truly become home to me. It is a piece I never knew was missing from my life.
On a program night, I walk the halls, and I hear laughter. I hear Scripture being cited by our students. I hear one-on-one conversations in the hall, and I see our wonderful leaders teaching our students and giving them nuggets of Jesus. Rock House Kids is a place where kids are able to pause, feel, and know they are loved—not just by us, but by Jesus.
God has entrusted us with the next generation, and we get to pour into His special children.
God has taught me through Rock House that trauma, pain, and hurt can look like a student misbehaving when, on the inside, our kids are going through such big things that the world has no clue about. Parents getting divorced, parents losing jobs, their only vehicle breaking down—all of this weighs on a child. You know who knows what they are going through? Jesus.
We get so many kids who walk these halls, and when you break down their tough exterior and build trust with them, you see them as God sees them.
Our kids need love, consistency, and someone to always point them back to our Creator. Now, when I walk through the doors of RHK, I no longer have a nervous feeling; I have excitement and peace. I have gratitude that I get to be here and show up for our kids.
When God calls you somewhere, He will not leave you to do it alone. Keep your faith and trust in Him, and watch how far He takes you.
