Ever have “one of those days?”
One evening during our program, one of the little boys was sent to me for the third time that evening. Nothing was helping. He was kicking other kids, jumping from place to place and would not listen to anything.
I threw up a prayer asking for wisdom. Then it happened! The boy saw a book cart by the wall and started telling me about books he had at home. He said he was going to bring one to put on the cart to share.
“That is so thoughtful! Why don’t you take a few books from the cart home with you? You can keep them or use it like a library and trade books back and forth.”
He liked that idea and went to work selecting the ones he wanted. He pulled out one book titled Adam and Eve. “Did you know that Adam and Eve were the first people on the earth?” he asked. Then, proceeded to tell me how he knew this because he read it in his Bible and he was on the last pages of it. It was a picture Bible. I had an idea! I went to where we keep our Bibles and picked one out for him. I handed it to him and told him this can be his new Bible. He looked up to me in shock. His little eyes began to water. He asked, “Is this really for me to keep?” I said, “Absolutely”. With that he came around the table and gave me such a big hug and told me he loved me.
This little guy who was having a rough day just needed a little extra attention. What he didn’t understand was through our time together he allowed the Lord to use him to spur me on and see there are positive things happening, even when they are hard to see at times.
